QCells turns the lights out on Australia amidst a tricky landscape

QCells facility with half lights on at dusk for QCells solar panels Perth updating Australia exit

Since supplying Australia in 2009, QCells has called time on the local Australian market, citing ‘extreme competition’ that makes the down-under subsidiary’s business no longer viable. This is good news for existing QCells system owners, as they shouldn’t be in the lurch regarding warranty assurance. QCells’ parent company (Hanwha) has committed to supporting warranty obligations in the foreseeable future. But should you commit to buying a QCells solar panel system despite this news?

Perth’s best solar panels. Get our latest catalogue delivered to your inbox.

Key points

Qcells cited an overly competitive landscape in a year that has seen many competing manufacturers selling below the cost of manufacture to maintain market share. And it’s a fair call: There is little point in being in business if you can’t make a profit. Therefore, what does that mean for those who have chosen or are choosing QCells solar panels as part of a system?

Recently installed QCells solar panels come equipped with a 25-year product warranty, ensuring overall product integrity (if installed to manufacturer specifications). With QCells no longer occupying an Australian base, manufacturer warranty resolution falls back to QCells, South Korea. The good news is that Hanwha QCells is a stable company that is better positioned than most to be around in 25 years. However, dealing with foreign companies [generally] in a warranty scenario is painful for an end-user.

The good news is that due to Australian consumer law, local warranty support remains available without manufacturer presence:

Both parties are responsible for ensuring that the QCells solar panels you purchased in Australia are of ‘merchantable quality’ for the intended period. However, vendor establishment and trust are crucial when depending locally, and your risk exposure timeline becomes more poignant.

Previous QCells Q.Partner. We know good technology & what’s required to support it.

Short-term (0 to 3 years): Consider your level of warranty support with QCells solar panels, which is strong among all parties in relative terms—manufacturer, distributor, and installer. In a warranty scenario, it is highly likely to receive responsive after-care.

Medium-term (4 to 10 years): One of three parties with QCells warranty responsibility will likely cease to exist. However, Hanwha QCells is a leading manufacturer internationally. In the absence of one local link, it may take a little longer to resolve. Nevertheless, warranty assurance should be available.

Long-term (10 to 25 years): The likelihood of local support begins to thin if you do not choose an established supply partner/channel. Unless QCells decides to return to Australia, warranty resolution will occur between you, the end-user and QCells in South Korea. Be prepared, as this will take time.

Our consideration on QCells solar panels

When a manufacturer abandons Australia, we’ve learned to sunset the product, regardless of product integrity/quality. A solar energy system is an energy investment for a nominated period. It’s more of a liability and exposure question over time and volume. At the end of the day, “We’re invested as much as you are” but multiplied. From experience, dealing with internationally headquartered companies for warranties can be more fun, something not overly compelling for new business propositions. 25 years is a long time with a lack of investment and definition in a local support structure at scale. Still, we’ll always support our past customers no matter the scenario.

The journey

In 2011, after providing electrical services to various retail solar and energy companies for seven years, Derek had accumulated a library of frustration as part of the customer journey. Most elements of frustration had a level of commonality. They were avoidable and seemingly human error-related. With a knowledge of interpreting software, Derek formed Perth Solar Warehouse creating an all-encompassing online purchasing experience through online technologies that minimised human error within conventional solar company models and improved internal efficiency through digital processes.

However, it’s not one element that caught the curiosity of the Just Another Solar Podcast hosts. Perth Solar Warehouse consumer satisfaction across critical reviewing databases for customer research trends in alignment identifying consistency in both high pool depth (e.g., SolarQuotes.com.au) and low pool depth (e.g., Solar Choice) platforms. Such consistency from a Top 10 volume company in Western Australia (Sunwiz data 2023) has the professional community wondering how customer success follows a relatively lean business compared to many—efficiency through digitalisation.

Emphasised from a competitive business perspective, “In the digital space, If you are looking at what we [Perth Solar Warehouse] are doing, you are already behind, what you’re seeing today has already occurred. It’s in the past. A little bit like the sun you see on the horizon, which in reality, already occurred five minutes prior. We’re already looking at what’s next and implementing these revelations behind the scenes.”

The solar industry is never a stable place and is extremely competitive, “We need to remain agile and pivot as required…We’re consistently evolving as a leading sustainable energy provider” mentioned Derek.

The advantage

Travelling to sustainable energy-related conferences relative to Australian energy supplies, Derek grasps significant insight into future trends shaping the energy landscape. considered a crystal ball method. Fortuitously, Perth Solar Warehouse customers benefit from the most advanced product options on the market while acquiring knowledge shared directly from industry insight holders. Such a level of foresight has put Perth Solar Warehouse on the national map as a business to watch in 2024.

The benefit

What is the benefit of revealing potentially proprietary insights with competitors? Derek believes in more significant positive consumer sentiment towards sustainable energy adoption. “if we allow businesses to learn from our model that experiences high customer satisfaction at scale, consumer sentiment shifts and more encourage technology leaps through positive outcomes.” Furthermore, “We [PSW Energy, Perth Solar Warehouse] aim to assist growth in energy supplies that are more sustainable for humanity to thrive. We can’t do this alone, and the more businesses that invest in long-term customer outcomes, that’s a fantastic space to exist. We must encourage positive competition.”

A layer not conveyed during the recording, Derek McKercher later revealed on Linkedin:

I never said anything. The meter reader mauled to death in QLD while working in 2022 and discussed in this latest podcast was my best friend from East Kenwick Primary School – Kane Minion. On reflection, I found it fitting that we were reunited unintentionally in a certain way yet again as my journey on this pale blue dot emerges into the spotlight on this podcast.

Thank you, Luke Beattie, Karl Jensen and Nigel Morris, for continuing the discussion on personnel safety and improvements through technology to prevent reoccurrence. It was a tremendous coincidence, and you did not know my relationship. After the recording, I was even more grateful that progressive debate continues in 2024.

Your life touched many. Rest in peace, my friend

Tesla solar panels make way for a one-brand energy solution

Tesla Solar Panels - Solar Roof

You have the electric vehicle, Tesla Wall Connector and potentially even the Tesla Powerwall home energy reserve, but what extra benefits do Tesla solar panels offer your home energy ecosystem? To be honest, very little if residing in Australia, as there is no specific roadmap for Australians seeking a complete Tesla one-brand energy solution. However, if you’re still interested in how the current US variations of Tesla solar panels compare in 2024, here are the specifications of what you may or may not be missing out on.

Contents

Key points

Due to the hype surrounding the Tesla solar panels available in the US market, it’s only natural for Australian energy investors to consider the world-renowned brand when shopping for an energy investment. However, locating an installer who can supply any variety of Tesla solar panels can prove challenging. In fact, non-existent. Neither Tesla Solar Roof nor Solar panels are available in Australia. An outcome that may or may not happen in 2024 and beyond.

Nevertheless, 99% of solar panels are simple static energy generation devices with no complex communicative/computing components—outputs of merely Voltage and Current to generate a nominated DC (Direct Current) power. Fortunately, Tesla solar panels have the same intrinsic function, rendering the critical differences only in aesthetic design, brand value and (likely) cost—aspects of measurable capacity against what is available today.

Which to consider?

Two Tesla solar panels exist for unique reasons. One named ‘Tesla Solar Panel’ is in a format similar to a typical residential solar panel from most BNEF Tier-1 listed manufacturers. It is an all-black design with similar visual characteristics to a conventional monocrystalline solar panel while providing the most significant energy efficiency per square meter out of the Tesla solar panel range.

The building-integrated ‘Solar Roof’ is the Tesla solar panel format for those seeking superior aesthetic appeal. It is less protruding, and due to the reduced dimensions of each panel, the Tesla Solar Roof can maximise a nominated roof face where pitches are less accommodating.

Even though it lacks the building-integrated appeal of the ‘Solar Roof’ module, the Tesla Photovoltaic Module improves conventional solar panel design with a proprietary Zep Groove for a more seamless aesthetic appeal with Tesla Zs mounting components and array skirting.

Tesla Solar Roof panel (58 W): Promoted to be more durable than conventional roofing materials, the Tesla Solar Roof offers arguably the most visually appealing photovoltaic design. Seamlessly rooftop integrated, the ‘Solar Roof’ provides up to 58.47 W from its 381 mm x 1143 mm dimensions.

The Tesla energy ecosystem

If there’s one thing we know, Tesla doesn’t build technology by halves. Therefore, the Tesla energy ecosystem is simpler than alternative solar technologies yet broader towards a genuine one-energy ecosystem solution with feature-rich qualities. Tesla products cater to a target energy market and user. Similarly, Apple appeals to a large segment of the portable smart device market. Above all, the Tesla energy ecosystem’s true strength is its software, which enhances the usability and control of energy. Here’s what to expect from the Tesla energy ecosystem beyond solar panel options in 2024.

Powerwall 2: Tried and proven, the Tesla Powerwall 2 will continue to exist alongside Powerwall 3 due to its retrofit design compatibility with 99% of existing solar-only systems and is expected to be the most cost-effective Tesla Powerwall with an equal 13.5 kW storage capacity to Powerwall 3. Single-phase with three-phase limited compatibility.

Powerwall 3: An all-in-one solar inverter and energy storage solution designed to accommodate new Tesla Energy ecosystems from the start. With added components for solar conversion if required. Single-phase with three-phase limited compatibility.

Wall Connector: The advantages of Wall Connector have yet to be comprehensively realised by the masses. As mentioned earlier, Tesla’s real strength is its software. Even though potential hardware limitations may exist at face value, Tesla products can be upgraded remotely through software. When incorporated with the greater energy ecosystem, the Tesla Wall Connector offers unparalleled greatness in a simple format at an undeniable value. Rumours have it that bidirectional charging is not out of the question.

Tesla App:  When comparing energy hardware in 2024, consider which companies invest the most into software because your user experience is now digital. Manufacturing origin

Made in the U.S.A., Tesla solar panels are produced at the Giga New York factory in Buffalo, New York. It was Solar City before becoming the Tesla Giga New York factory. Tesla acquired Solar City in 2016 to commence a complimentary solar module suite.

Gigafactory Buffalo for Tesla solar panels

What do they cost

Given that there is no current supply of either form of Tesla solar panels to the Australian market, there is no available cost guidance [Jan 2024]. Given Australia’s aggressive solar panel pricing structure at severely reduced rates compared to the rest of the world, comparing alternative markets would offer no insight into relative cost comparisons.

Pairing options

If you were to pair Tesla solar panels with an ideal energy conversion technology, effectively, one item reigns supreme for a one-brand energy ecosystem. However, if you would like to broaden your battery options beyond the Tesla energy ecosystem suite, a couple of alternative great options exist.

To wait or not to wait for Tesla solar panels

It depends [subheading] on which Tesla solar panel option you prefer. If the more conventional Tesla Photovoltaic Module is appealing, waiting will have a minimal advantage given that a Tesla Photovoltaic Module is a similar format to most readily available solar panels on the market today with similar all-black aesthetics. With no guarantee that the Tesla Photovoltaic module will make it to Australia, waiting is lost energy savings with minimal gain should the Tesla Photovoltaic module arrive down under.

However, the Tesla solar roof is unique. It certainly isn’t cost-competitive per kW compared to a conventional solar array. But that’s not why you’re investing in it. The Tesla Solar Roof can be considered a building-integrated solar energy collector that seamlessly compliments the roof line on which it is installed. Especially important when the external facade is a significant priority. Given that the Tesla Australia website has the Solar Roof listed, waiting for this option, compared to the alternative roof-integrated options (solar tiles), could prove worthwhile. Reassess this release in six months (mid 2024).

Tesla solar panel options will indeed grab the attention of many. With no software or communicative compatibilities, a Tesla solar panel is simply a static solar energy generation device with a certain ‘Tesla’ design appeal. For some, this could well and truly be worth the wait. For most, the sun shines each day and each day of waiting is lost energy savings. At Perth Solar Warehouse, we have leading solar panel options available today that complement the Tesla energy ecosystem wonderfully and with a similar streamlined aesthetic appeal. Explore your energy-saving potential in style with Perth Solar Warehouse and PSW Energy.

SMA solar inverters maximise energy production with one huge feature

SMA Solar Inverters Perth WA

In reality, it’s [headline] more likely to be 42 years of ingenuity and the combination of all assembled aspects working in perfect harmony for the unrivalled energy conversion experience many have come to expect from Germany’s most regarded sustainable energy innovator. However, it’s 2023, and the world of innovation isn’t immune to reverse engineering to achieve similar outcomes in competing products. With the competition always so close, what’s the edge SMA solar inverters possess to validate your investment?

Contents

Pros & cons

Perhaps the most undersold feature within an SMA solar inverter is yet to be visualised at the module level to determine actual value. In a world of marketing hype, it’s often challenging to discern good features from the great. However, one SMA solar inverter feature is exceptional, and we’ve yet to visualise another string solar inverter perform similarly.

Through proprietary means, SMA solar inverters can outperform similar string inverters when sunlight becomes obstructed. It’s the mechanism that allows an SMA string inverter to perform similarly to a module-level optimised system. More outstanding, it does this for a fraction of the investment. Shadefix. And it’s far more than marketing hype.

Footage of this feature using Tigo module-level monitoring-only units (TS4-A-M) identifies improved array performance in the event of a partially shaded scenario. Fluctuactuating independently and visualised as Watts per panel, when the shade imposes an effect on the solar array, only the solar panels affected by shade output reduces significantly until virtual isolation of an individual solar panel. All this while other solar panels perform at their peak Power potential as the timelapse captures the western afternoon aspect with output figures from 250W (approximately) until the entire array output diminishes with a setting sun.

Key features

Common among all SMA inverters are the key features that define SMA solar inverter advantages when comparing options away from specific model features. These will become essential when comparing different inverter brands.

Which to consider?

Every SMA solar inverter in 2023 comes equipped with Shadefix. But with exceptional performance features, prices increase significantly from base models. Therefore, purchasing the ideal SMA solar inverter to suit your power supply and intentions is likely to be more beneficial. The good news is that there’s an easy way to refine which SMA inverter to choose.

The SMA energy ecosystem

Beyond internal feature enhancements within SMA solar inverters, external communicative product compatibilities provide what’s now known as “the ecosystem”. An insular world where all expansion options communicate and operate as one harmonious energy ecosystem for a technological advantage. Now providing a DC-coupled HV battery option, the SMA energy ecosystem is perhaps the most comprehensive. It remains one of the more expensive solutions when coupling additional ecosystem features, although that’s the lesser factor when purchasing SMA. Delving into the SMA energy ecosystem, it’s an investment in sustainable energy refinement.

Manufacturing origin & cyber security

Depending on the model, SMA solar inverters are made in Germany and China. However, these should be considered more assembly locations from similarly automated production lines with the same composite of materials. More strategic than anything else, the split of geographical region SMA production facilities provides improved global distribution of selected models where specific variants have greater uptake. Nevertheless, when purchasing SMA, you’re investing in German-designed technology built to German quality standards. Take comfort in the reputation of the SMA badge.

Beyond the assembly origin of selected hardware, SMA solar inverters continue to surpass expectations with a less than 1% failure rate. As manufacturing lines become significantly automated, lessening manufacturing origin deficiencies of a previous era, the more poignant question in 2023/24 relates to cyber security and where your data is stored/used. You can tell a lot from energy data. If embedding an energy consumption monitor or alongside a solar inverter, the data produced becomes habitual.

SMA is proving to be a leader in the cyber security space, shaping secure information protocols beyond recognised standards for improved peace of mind.

The cost between models

Regarding SMA, the best value is enjoyed when purchasing the specific technology for your needs. If you buy a hybrid inverter ‘just in case,’ it has little rewards, expediting return on investment as an economics device. As most onboard features and software functions are standard across models, the simplest method to improve the affordability of an SMA inverter solution is to have a general idea of future battery choices (if any).

If no battery or an AC-coupled battery such as Tesla Powerwall, SMA Sunny Island or SMA Home Storage is a preferred storage solution, a simplified solar-only inverter will improve project/system feasibility.

Different panels to pair with SMA

Average SMA inverter prices within this product focus are calculated using the new generation LONGi Hi-MO 6 solar panels as an AAA-rated Tier-1 bankable brand and a mid-level price point. However, SMA system affordability is improved when integrating similarly regarded solar panels by reputable manufacturers such as Risen Energy, which powers the high-performing Merridin Solar farm.

Although, when nothing less than the best shall compliment your chosen SMA solar inverter, consider the Intersolar Award-winning REC Alpha Pure R series for unmatched performance in hot conditions.

How much more energy can SMA inverters convert

From a Perth Solar Warehouse perspective, reputation and word of mouth are everything. Therefore, SMA’s Smart Connect is a feature we can honestly say is unmatched by any solar inverter brand. Smart Connect provides an automatic and free remote fault detection service for all SMA solar inverters connected to SMA Energy (the internet). We’ve experienced scenarios where SMA has pre-organised warranty replacement prior to the customer’s awareness of a fault state occurring rescuing lost yields under warranty.

The new frontier in energy storage is open communication with third-party appliances such as Air conditioning systems and hot water heat pumps to operate when solar power begins exporting to the less rewarding grid. Communicating with alternative storage devices provides an inexpensive complement to lithium battery storage for improved solar energy utilisation. The only drawback is that residential utilisation of this feature remains some time away. SMA’s ennexOS is an Inersolar Award-winning software system for innovation for this potential.

LONGi solar panels for Perth homes

Hi-MO-6-01-Explorer

LONGi is the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer by shipment volume. That scale alone doesn’t tell you whether their panels belong on your roof. What does: the technology inside, how it performs in Perth’s climate, and what warranty protects it when you’re not watching.

This guide covers the LONGi panels that actually matter for residential installations in Western Australia. Not every model in the catalogue suits a home. We’ve narrowed it to the residential-format panels Perth Solar Warehouse installs and supports, with the specs, warranty detail, and WA-specific context you need to make a confident decision.

Contents

Why LONGi panels keep showing up on Perth rooftops

LONGi shipped over 63GW of solar cells and modules in the first nine months of 2025 alone. They’ve held the top manufacturing position globally since 2020, and they’re the only panel brand to hold a AAA bankability rating from PV ModuleTech.

Bankability matters because it signals financial stability. A 25-year warranty is only as good as the company standing behind it. LONGi’s vertically integrated manufacturing (they make everything from raw silicon ingots to finished modules) gives them cost control that most competitors can’t match, and that control shows up in the price you pay without sacrificing cell quality.

For Perth homeowners, three things stand out. LONGi only uses monocrystalline silicon, which is more efficient than the polysilicon some budget brands still use. Their HPBC cell technology (more on that below) is purpose-built for rooftop applications. And they maintain an Australian office with a local warranty claims process, which matters more than you’d think until you need it.

HPBC cell technology: what it is and why it matters in WA

HPBC stands for Hybrid Passivated Back Contact. It’s LONGi’s alternative to the N-type TOPCon cells that dominate the rest of the market. The difference you can see: no busbars on the front of the panel. The difference you can’t see: the entire electrical contact structure is moved to the rear of the cell.

That front-side busbar-free design does two practical things. It captures more light (no metal strips blocking the cell surface) and it produces a cleaner, more uniform appearance on your roof. LONGi’s HPBC cells exceed 25% cell efficiency in mass production, with the upgraded HPBC+ cells pushing past 25.8%.

Perth-specific benefit: HPBC cells handle temperature better than older P-type PERC panels. With a temperature coefficient around -0.29%/°C, output drops by roughly 5.8% when cell temperature climbs from 25°C to 45°C. On a 38°C Perth summer day, panel cell temperatures can easily exceed 60°C, so every fraction of a percent in temperature coefficient performance counts toward real energy yield.

The LONGi Hi-MO X6 range for residential rooftops

LONGi recently rebranded its distributed generation (rooftop) modules under the Hi-MO X6 banner. If you’ve been researching and see references to “Hi-MO 6,” it’s the same platform with incremental cell upgrades. The X6 is the current generation.

Three sub-models matter for Perth homes. All use HPBC cells in the M10 (182mm) wafer format, and all come in the residential-standard 54-cell configuration (108 half-cells) that fits standard Australian rooftops without the weight and size penalties of commercial-format 72-cell panels.

Explorer: the volume residential pick

The Explorer is LONGi’s highest-volume residential panel globally, and it’s the one most Perth homeowners will end up with. Available in both standard white-backsheet (HTH) and all-black (HTB) variants, it hits the sweet spot between HPBC performance and sharp pricing.

At 440W in the HTH variant, you need 15 panels for a 6.6kW system. That’s roughly 27 square metres of roof space. The all-black HTB variant tops out at 435W, so you’d need the same 15 panels but with a slightly cleaner aesthetic on street-facing roof planes.

If your decision comes down to budget and you’re not in a coastal or high-humidity location, the Explorer is the right starting point.

Scientist: when maximum efficiency matters

The Scientist uses LONGi’s upgraded HPBC Pro cells with efficiency exceeding 25.3% at the cell level and up to 23.2% at the module level. That’s among the highest for any panel in this form factor available in Australia.

Where this matters most: constrained roof space. If your usable area is limited by hips, valleys, ventilation, or shading, every watt per square metre counts. The Scientist pulls more energy from the same footprint. It also carries a 25-year product warranty as standard, which removes the need to verify warranty tier against the datasheet.

Guardian: built for coastal and harsh environments

Perth’s metro area stretches along 100+ kilometres of coastline. If your home is within a few kilometres of the ocean, salt mist, humidity, and UV intensity all accelerate panel degradation over a 25-year service life.

The Guardian addresses this with dual-glass construction (glass-glass instead of glass-backsheet), enhanced moisture sealing, and an anti-dust frame design. It carries a 30-year performance warranty, which is five years longer than the Explorer’s standard coverage. LONGi’s installation guidelines recommend anti-corrosion treatment for any panel installed within 50 metres of the beach, but the Guardian’s construction gives it a meaningful advantage in the 500m to 5km coastal band where many Perth homes sit.

Why we recommend residential-format panels (and skip the 72-cell models)

LONGi makes 72-cell panels in the Hi-MO X6 range with power outputs exceeding 580W. They’re physically larger, heavier, and designed for commercial rooftops and ground-mount systems. Some installers will quote them for homes because the per-watt cost looks attractive.

We don’t. Here’s why.

Australian residential rooftops aren’t flat commercial expanses. They have hips, valleys, chimneys, whirlybirds, and satellite dishes. A 72-cell panel at roughly 2278 × 1134mm and 27kg can’t squeeze into gaps that a 54-cell panel at 1722 × 1134mm and 21kg fills comfortably. The larger panels also concentrate more weight per mounting point, which matters on older timber-framed roofs common across Perth’s established suburbs.

Fifteen residential-format 440W panels give you 6.6kW. The same capacity in 72-cell panels requires fewer panels but covers a larger total area once you account for the gaps created by panels that can’t work around roof obstacles. In practice, the 54-cell format almost always yields a better-optimised array layout on a real residential roof.

LONGi warranty in Australia: what you actually get

LONGi’s warranty structure in Australia has improved significantly since 2023, when they extended the Hi-MO 5m product warranty from 15 to 25 years for the Australian and New Zealand market. The Hi-MO X6 range continues this trajectory, though warranty terms vary by model.

Product warranty (materials and workmanship)

This covers manufacturing defects, materials, and processing faults. Depending on the specific Hi-MO X6 model, you’ll receive either 15 or 25 years. The Scientist and Guardian carry 25 years as standard. Some Explorer models carry 15 years. Always confirm the product warranty on the quoted panel’s datasheet before signing off.

Performance warranty (power output degradation)

All Hi-MO X6 panels in Australia carry a 25-year performance warranty guaranteeing no more than 1.5% degradation in year one and no more than 0.4% per year thereafter. By year 25, your panels are warranted to produce at least 88.9% of their original rated output. The Guardian’s dual-glass models extend this to 30 years at 86.9%.

These degradation rates are competitive but not exceptional by 2026 standards. What makes LONGi’s warranty more practical than some competitors is the local enforcement mechanism: LONGi maintains an Australian office (02 8484 5805) and a documented claims process. Your first point of contact for any warranty issue is your installer, but if the installer is no longer operating, you have a direct path to the manufacturer.

How LONGi compares in the Perth residential market

LONGi competes at the quality-value intersection. They’re not the cheapest panels available in Perth, and they’re not the most expensive. Their strength is delivering HPBC cell technology (a genuine performance advantage over older PERC panels) at a price point that undercuts most N-type TOPCon competitors.

The trade-off is cell architecture philosophy. Most of the industry has moved to N-type TOPCon as the baseline quality standard. LONGi has bet on HPBC (which uses P-type wafers) as an alternative path to high efficiency. Both approaches achieve similar real-world results in Perth’s climate. LONGi’s HPBC panels match or exceed the temperature coefficient, efficiency, and degradation rates of mainstream TOPCon panels. The debate between the two technologies is more relevant to manufacturers than to homeowners.

What should matter to you: the panel’s efficiency, its warranty terms, its temperature performance in WA conditions, and whether the manufacturer will still be around in 15 years. LONGi ticks every box.

Installing LONGi panels in Perth: WA-specific considerations

STC discount

LONGi panels are eligible for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) in Zone 3, which covers Perth and most of the SWIS grid area. STCs are not a government rebate. They’re tradeable certificates created when you install an eligible solar system, and their value is deducted from your system price at the point of sale. Perth Solar Warehouse handles the STC paperwork and applies the discount directly to your quoted price.

CSIP-AUS compliance (May 2026 onward)

From May 2026, all new solar and battery installations in WA must comply with CSIP-AUS (Common Smart Inverter Profile — Australia). This primarily affects the inverter, not the panels. LONGi panels are compatible with all CSIP-AUS compliant inverters. The 30kVA aggregate inverter limit and flexible export requirements are managed at the inverter level, so your panel selection is not constrained by these new rules.

DEBS and export rates

Your LONGi panels will generate more electricity than you use during the day. Excess energy exports to the grid under Synergy’s Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS), which pays variable rates depending on the time of export. Peak rates apply in the early morning and evening; midday rates are minimal. This is why pairing panels with a battery increasingly makes sense for Perth homes, but the panel choice itself doesn’t affect your DEBS eligibility or rates.

Tilt and orientation

LONGi recommends a minimum 10° tilt to allow rain to clean the panel surface effectively. Most Perth rooftops naturally exceed this. North-facing arrays at 20–25° tilt produce the highest annual yield in Perth’s latitude, but west-facing arrays are increasingly popular to capture afternoon generation that aligns with evening consumption.

Common questions about LONGi solar panels

Yes. LONGi consistently appears on Bloomberg NEF’s Tier 1 module maker list and holds the only AAA bankability rating from PV ModuleTech. Tier 1 status reflects manufacturing scale and financial stability, not a quality grade, but LONGi’s independent testing results and bankability rating provide the quality signal Tier 1 doesn’t.

LONGi operates manufacturing facilities across China (eight provinces), Malaysia (Kuching), and Vietnam. Panels sold in Australia are most commonly manufactured in China or Malaysia. The manufacturing origin doesn’t affect warranty coverage in Australia.

Using the Hi-MO X6 Explorer at 440W: 15 panels (15 × 440W = 6,600W = 6.6kW). This array connects to a 5kW inverter under the standard oversizing ratio permitted in WA and requires approximately 27 square metres of roof area.

They’re different approaches to the same goal: higher efficiency and better real-world performance. HPBC uses P-type silicon with back contacts and achieves similar or better efficiency than most TOPCon panels at a lower manufacturing cost. For homeowners, the practical performance in Perth’s climate is comparable. Choose based on warranty terms, pricing, and your installer’s recommendation rather than cell technology alone.

Absolutely. LONGi panels are compatible with every battery and hybrid inverter system Perth Solar Warehouse installs, including Tesla Powerwall 3, Sigenergy SigenStor, and other leading platforms. The panel choice and battery choice are independent decisions.

Get the right LONGi panel for your home

The best LONGi panel for your home depends on your roof layout, your proximity to the coast, and your budget. Perth Solar Warehouse installs LONGi Hi-MO X6 panels across the Perth metro area from two locations: Bibra Lake in the south and Neerabup in the north.

Perth Solar Warehouse an Australian Top 10 solar installer, Sunwiz data

Perth Solar Warehouse Top Ten Solar Company Award

One can be forgiven for thinking that many awards are a little token when comparing solar installers in 2023. There seems to be an award for almost everything, and most review platforms offer little clarity as companies close and recreate Google Business accounts (long-standing businesses with five stars and low review counts) or equally dubious is the purchasing of reviews (high review count and minimal context). Based on review count averages, it’s fair to say it’s harder to discern the good from the great in solar. Sunwiz, an industry market intelligence provider, identified these hurdles influencing an informed energy investment decision.

Key points

  • Sunwiz industry data intelligence provider identifies Australia’s top 10 solar installers of 2023 by customer satisfaction across diverse platforms.
  • Perth Solar Warehouse is the highest-ranked solar company in Perth, Western Australia, measured across a broad range of customer satisfaction databases.
  • Sunwiz data provides local solar industry market intelligence for improved investment decision-making.

Held at the Smart Energy Council Convention and Exhibition on May 4, 2023, Sunwiz, an industry market intelligence provider, announced Australia’s Top 10 solar installers. Measured by customer satisfaction ratings across diverse platforms, Sunwiz provides measurable data assisting informed investment decision-making processes into sustainable energy. The aim is better guidance for consumers to realise the benefits of sustainable energy infrastructure based on proven historical information.

Sunwiz Top 10 Solar Companies Australia Award Trophies to Perth solar Warehouse

“Ranking as a top 10 solar installer in Australia is a relatively straightforward process with a clear focus and set goals”, mentions Derek McKercher. “Our goal is to be customer-revered at every point of the process while uncomplicating the seemingly complicated process of adopting sustainable energy products. This focus commenced over a decade ago when customer satisfaction databases began gaining traction. We naturally avoided databases with paid elements as we could see the potential for corruption in the data. We also wanted to avoid being compared alongside propped-up companies with deeper pockets. Over time, people will naturally gravitate towards where honest answers are more likely to be found.”

“We also avoid talking poorly about the competition, which many companies have a culture of. It attracts the wrong sort of customer. If a product and service is genuinely better, it rises above for consideration based on good supporting information. It’s important to let our product stand on its own.”

The Sunwiz Australian Top 10 solar installer award adds further depth and consideration that positions Perth Solar Warehouse as one of the best solar companies in Perth, WA. Sharing the ingredients of this recognition, the critical elements that are attributed to such an award are time and customer-centricity. There is no shortcut.

Sungrow batteries and inverters for Perth homes

Sungrow is the world’s largest inverter manufacturer by shipped volume, a position they’ve held since 2015. In Australia, independent installer surveys consistently rank Sungrow as the second most preferred residential inverter brand behind Fronius, with roughly 19% of Australian installers nominating it as their go-to choice.

TLDR

But in 2026, the Sungrow conversation has shifted. Homeowners researching Sungrow are primarily researching their battery systems, the SBR and SBH, and which inverter pairs with which battery. That’s what this guide covers: the complete Sungrow battery and inverter ecosystem, how the pieces fit together, and what it means for Perth homes on the SWIS (South West Interconnected System, aka Synergy) network.

Sungrow is available in Perth through Perth Solar Warehouse directly and also through our Kleenheat Spark partnership. We install Sungrow’s RS-series inverters and both battery ranges. We don’t lead with Sungrow in every quote, but when the brief calls for a well-priced battery system with solid engineering and proven reliability, Sungrow earns its place.

Sungrow's two battery systems

Sungrow offers two residential battery ranges in Australia. Both use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Both are modular. Both qualify for federal and state battery rebates. They serve different homes.

Sungrow SBR

The SBR is Sungrow’s established residential battery. It uses 3.2kWh LFP modules in a floor-standing rack. Start with two modules (6.4kWh) and scale up to eight (25.6kWh) per stack.

Specs that matter in practice: 97% round-trip efficiency, 30A continuous charge and discharge, IP55 for indoor or outdoor installation, 36kg per module (manageable for a single installer), and a 10-year warranty guaranteeing 70% capacity retention.

The SBR pairs with Sungrow’s single-phase hybrid inverter (SH-RS) or three-phase hybrid (SH-RT). For most Perth households running 6.6kW to 10kW of solar, an SBR between 9.6kWh and 16kWh covers evening and overnight loads without oversizing.

Sungrow SBH

The SBH is Sungrow’s newer, higher-capacity battery using 5kWh modules. Configurations from 20kWh to 40kWh per stack, with up to four stacks in parallel for a maximum 160kWh.

Key differences from the SBR: 50A continuous current (versus 30A), higher energy density per module, and a 0.7 C-rate (versus 0.6). The SBH is compatible with both the single-phase SH-RS (up to 6 modules / 30kWh per stack) and the three-phase SH-RT (up to 8 modules / 40kWh per stack). A firmware update released in late 2025 extended SBH compatibility to the SH-RS range.

The SBH earns its place when high energy throughput and larger storage capacity are priorities, regardless of whether you’re on single or three-phase power.

Inverter x battery compatibility

Sungrow’s inverter range determines which battery you can use. Here’s the decision tree.

SH-RS: single-phase hybrid

Available in 5kW, 6kW, 8kW, and 10kW. The SH-RS is where most Perth homeowners land when they want Sungrow with a battery. Four MPPTs on the 10kW model for complex roof layouts. Accepts DC-coupled SBR batteries and SBH batteries (up to 6 modules / 30kWh) directly, plus AC-coupled options for future flexibility.

The SH-RS manages time-of-use charging through iSolarCloud, supports backup power to essential circuits during grid outages, and handles the charge/discharge scheduling that makes battery economics work on Synergy tariffs.

Pairs with: SBR (6.4–22.4kWh) or SBH (20–30kWh)

SH-RT: three-phase hybrid

Available in 5kW, 8kW, and 10kW. The three-phase equivalent, also compatible with both SBR and SBH batteries but with higher module limits. The SH-RT supports up to 8 SBR modules (25.6kWh) or 8 SBH modules (40kWh) per stack, with up to four SBH stacks in parallel for a maximum 160kWh.

Pairs with: SBR (6.4–25.6kWh) or SBH (20–160kWh)

SG-RS and SG-RT: string inverters (solar only)

The SG-RS (single-phase, 3–10kW) and SG-RT (three-phase, 5–20kW) are solar-only inverters. No DC battery input. If you install one of these and decide to add storage later, you’d pair it with an AC-coupled battery, which works, but the inverter won’t manage your battery directly.

Pairs with: No Sungrow battery. AC-coupled third-party batteries only.

Perth's specific factors

SWIS grid compatibility

Every Sungrow system installed in Perth connects to the SWIS network (Western Power manages the infrastructure; Synergy is your retailer). All RS-series inverters are certified to AS/NZS 4777.2 with CEC approval. No compatibility concerns for standard residential installs.

DEBS and battery economics

Synergy’s DEBS pays variable rates for exported solar by time of day. Both the SH-RS and SH-RT support scheduled charging and discharging through iSolarCloud, so you can hold generation during low-value export windows and use it during expensive evening peaks. We configure these schedules during commissioning.

Rebates

Sungrow SBR and SBH batteries qualify for the WA Residential Battery Scheme (state government rebate) and federal battery incentives under the expanded Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). Perth Solar Warehouse is an approved vendor under the WA scheme through PSW Energy.

STCs apply to the solar panel component, not the battery. They’re tradeable certificates under the Renewable Energy Target, not a government rebate. Applied at point of sale.

Sungrow vs.

Sungrow SBR vs. Goodwe ESA: The ESA is an all-in-one (inverter + battery in one cabinet), which means fewer components and lower installation costs. But the SBR paired with an SH-RS offers more inverter flexibility and a proven track record. The ESA wins on integration; Sungrow wins on modularity and field-proven reliability. Goodwe ESA review ›

Sungrow SBR vs. Tesla Powerwall 3: Tesla has the strongest brand and the most polished app. The Powerwall 3 is a fixed 13.5kWh unit with its own built-in inverter. Sungrow offers more granular capacity sizing (6.4kWh to 25.6kWh in 3.2kWh increments) and a potentially lower cost per kWh at larger configurations. Tesla Powerwall 3 review ›

Sungrow vs. Sigenergy SigenStor: Sigenergy offers a premium ecosystem with bidirectional DC EV charging and advanced load management. Sungrow is the value play: proven hardware, competitive pricing, and reliable performance without the ecosystem premium. Sigenergy Sigenstor review ›

Where Sungrow fits

Sungrow’s strength is the middle ground. Solid engineering, competitive pricing, and a battery range that scales without locking you into exotic hardware. The RS-series inverters are reliable, the SBR is well-proven in the Australian market, and iSolarCloud does the job.

It’s not the right answer for every home. If you want the most advanced ecosystem with integrated EV charging and whole-home backup from a single platform, Sigenergy or Tesla go further. If you want European-manufactured hardware with passive cooling, Fronius is the pick.

For Perth homeowners who want a well-priced solar and battery system that works reliably, Sungrow is a strong choice.

Warranty and support

RS-series inverters: 10-year parts and labour. SBR and SBH batteries: 10-year warranty with 70% capacity retention. Sungrow’s Australian support operates from Sydney.

Perth Solar Warehouse matches every Sungrow warranty with our own workmanship guarantee. One call to Bibra Lake or Neerabup. We handle manufacturer liaison.

Get the right system for your home

Whether Sungrow is the right fit depends on your power supply, your consumption, your roof, and what you want the system to do over the next decade. Request a quote and we’ll recommend the right inverter and battery combination with all rebates and STC discounts included.

Risen solar panels: 5 things you need to know before investing

Risen Solar Panels Powering the Merredin Solar Farm with blue sky on the horizon

Risen solar panels are the module of choice used within Western Australia’s iconic Merredin Solar Farm, a national utility-scale leader in production output. However, to determine which Risen solar panels are ideal for your project, greater insight is essential—the researched investor you want the Risen Energy facts, less the spin. Your focus is energy security when choosing a particular solar panel, and five essential elements deliver a better general insight to reassure a solar energy investment decision.

Pros & cons

Most will consider whether Risen solar panels are a BNEF Tier-1 ranked module brand. Even though such ranking offers little insight into individual product quality, the Bloomberg New Energy Finance module tiering system provides manufacturer bankability rankings for large-scale solar projects assisting warranty assurance for financiers. As it turns out, this is advantageous for rooftop solar module purchasers when considering brand strength and long-term warranty validity.

The sixth most voluminous BNEF Tier-1 solar panel manufacturer (Q1, 2023, 39 companies listed), Risen Energy is fast becoming synonymous with modern high-efficiency module designs while offering exceptional value. However, broader research is required to know which particular Risen solar panels are ideal for your rooftop solar project.

Risen Energy: Merredin solar farm preview.

Which to consider

Even though Risen have many module variations, most currently available in Perth can be refined to one base residential module variant. From here, higher Watt solar panels are merely achieved by adding more cells and, in turn, increasing weight and loading on the structure beneath. Ensuring a solar panel weighing 20-21 kG is a good measure of discerning the module difference if sizes become confusing.
