Frequent questions: 6.6 kW solar
Why 6.6 kW solar on a 5 kW inverter?
Synergy excludes solar inverters with an output capacity exceeding 5 kW from the Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme. If feed-in tariffs are a key factor in your decision to go solar, it’s best to limit your inverter selection to 5 kW.
For solar-only systems, most leading inverter brands indicate that their inverters can handle solar array oversizing by up to 50% to increase energy yield. However, the Clean Energy Regulator has capped the oversizing of solar inverters to 33% when a battery is not involved.
Based on this, a 5 kW inverter can support up to 6.66 kW of solar panels, calculated as follows: 5 kW ÷ 0.75 = 6.66 kW.
Tip: Forget low-value Synergy feed-in tariffs. Size a solar energy system better suited to your daily energy consumption (+10%) and consider a battery.
How much will I save from 6.6 kW of solar panels?
This information depends on your specific situation. A 6.6 kW solar energy system with a 5 kW inverter generates an annual daily average of 30 kWh (units) in Perth, Western Australia.
Maximum Energy Savings: To maximise savings, it’s beneficial to adjust your appliance usage in line with solar production, consuming only the energy generated by the system. Assuming a northern roof aspect (0°) with a 25° roof pitch, located in Perth (6000), and factoring in a 30% derate for environmental conditions, your energy savings on the Synergy Home Plan A1 tariff in 2026, at 32.3719 cents per kWh, would be calculated as follows:
6.6 kW system [10950 kWh p.a] = $2,480.
If you choose not to install a battery, these savings reflect only the energy generated during daylight hours, specifically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and are presented as direct unit-for-unit savings.
It’s important to remember that every solar installation is unique, and a location-specific energy yield report is essential for making an informed decision. We’ve made it easy for you to get your free yield report. Request a hassle-free quote, and we’ll provide you with a complimentary energy yield report.
How much is the rebate for 6.6 kW of solar panels in Perth, Western Australia?
Perth and Bunbury regions, WA: $38 STC (Small Technology Certificate) value and an ideal residential dimension (1750 x 1100) solar panel class with a 475W power output for multiplication:
System sizes | Installation year | Rebate value |
|---|---|---|
6.6 kW | 2026 | $1,746 |
6.6 kW | 2027 | $1,397 |
For your convenience, advertised 6.6 kW solar package prices by Perth Solar Warehouse include the zone 3 STC solar rebate deducted as a point of sale discount to be redeemed by Perth Solar Warehouse after installation, recovering the total system value.

How much is the Synergy solar feed-in tariff with 6.6 kW of solar panels?
Most residential solar arrays with a capacity of 6.6 kW, installed on a 5 kW inverter, will qualify for the Synergy solar feed-in tariff known as DEBS (Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme). This means you can receive:
2c ex GST: off-peak
10c ex GST: peak (3 pm to 9 pm)
Synergy solar feed-in tariff 2025/26 ›
As wholesale energy prices fluctuate throughout the day, the Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme values your excess solar energy based on the energy available on the grid at a specific time. During periods of high ambient light, a valuation of two cents reflects the excess solar power being fed into the grid by many systems exporting simultaneously, leading to wasted energy.
Solar energy is most valuable when used directly or stored in a battery for later use. If you qualify, the Synergy Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme will reduce your energy bill to a lower capacity.

Can I increase my solar array size beyond 6.6 kW on a 5 kW inverter if I add a battery?
Yes, this largely depends on the available rooftop surface area and the ideal product combination.
Different inverters and all-in-one battery systems have varying maximum capabilities. To maximise your energy yield from solar, it’s best to request a quote from Perth Solar Warehouse. PSW Sales Support can help you determine the optimal combination of solar array, inverter, and battery to meet your specific needs.
*Pricing & installation conditions:
1. Advertised prices and rebates. Displayed prices apply to the product shown on this page and are subject to eligibility for applicable rebates. Solar PV pricing assumes eligibility for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). Battery pricing assumes eligibility for the WA Residential Battery Scheme (if applicable) and/or the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. Unless stated otherwise, prices are based on an Eligible Structure and Base Installation Criteria. Prices include GST and are shown with eligible rebates applied as point-of-sale discounts (where specified). Additional installation costs may apply; see “Additional installation costs”.
2. Eligible Structure. Displayed pricing assumes a simplified residential installation: single-storey, single-roof face for solar panel arrays (where applicable), and a non-detached dwelling with suitable access and existing switchboard capacity/provisions to accommodate required additional circuitry and/or metering.
3. Base Installation Criteria – Solar PV. Base-package solar PV pricing assumes the PV system is installed with a CEC-approved inverter (or an integrated storage system that includes an eligible inverter). Where stated as “post-STC,” the displayed price includes a point-of-sale discount based on the Zone 3 STC value. Additional installation costs may apply.
4. Base Installation Criteria – Inverter/Battery. Base-package pricing assumes the primary inverter and/or primary (AC-coupled) battery is installed within 15 metres of the main electrical switchboard. Expansion (DC-coupled) batteries must be vertically integrated with the primary unit or installed within 3 metres of the primary battery/inverter (as applicable). Additional installation costs may apply.
5. Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). Where STCs are included, the STC value is applied as a point-of-sale discount calculated at $38 per certificate from the GST-inclusive total. Displayed prices that reference STCs are shown after this STC discount.
6. WA Residential Battery Scheme (WA Battery Rebate). Where applicable, the WA rebate is applied as a point-of-sale discount, calculated at $130 per usable kWh, up to a maximum of 10 kWh of usable capacity. Participation requirements include joining an eligible Virtual Power Plant (VPP), such as Synergy or Plico (as applicable). Customers may choose to opt out of the WA Residential Battery Scheme (where permitted), in which case the battery price will increase by the amount of the rebate.
7. Cheaper Home Batteries Program (Federal Battery Rebate). Where included, the value of any national battery incentive is applied as a point-of-sale discount calculated at $38 per certificate (net of trading fees). Because eligibility and net value can vary, request a preliminary quote for the full GST-inclusive system cost and the itemised incentive value applied to your configuration.
8. Performance and generation estimates. Any generation figures shown are indicative only and do not represent guaranteed output. Site-specific modelling is recommended; contact Sales Support for an estimate based on your address and roof design.
