Sigenergy voluntary product recall explained for concerned customers

Affected Sigen Energy Controller under the Sigenergy Voluntary Product recall highlighted representing the affected component within the stack

In October 2025, Perth Solar Warehouse’s parent company, McKercher Corporation, published the details of a Product Change Notice for Sigenergy SigenStor EC and Sigen Hybrid inverters, addressing improvements to the AC output interface. Due to further field observations and consultations with regulatory bodies, this notice has escalated to a voluntary product recall affecting specific single-phase models distributed throughout Australia.

The recall, initiated by Sigenergy Technology Co., Ltd., is being conducted under the supervision of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), with support from the Clean Energy Council (CEC), the Clean Energy Regulator, and state-based electrical authorities.

Contents

Summary

Sigenergy has identified isolated occurrences of damaged AC plugs on certain 8 kW, 10 kW, and 12 kW single-phase Sigen Energy Controllers/Inverters. While the issue originates from incorrect installation practices rather than a product defect, the company has opted for a voluntary national replacement program to ensure the highest standards of safety and reliability.

This measure follows Sigenergy’s proactive engineering response and firmware updates designed to safeguard system performance while replacement units are distributed.

Models affected

Models Affected

Single-Phase (SP) – 8 – 12 kW

  • SigenStor EC 8.0 SP / 10.0 SP / 12.0 SP
  • Sigen Hybrid 8.0 SP / 10.0 SP / 12.0 SP

Note: No three-phase models are affected.

Affected units can be identified by production before October 2025 and may lack the green-dot packaging mark introduced with the updated AC plug design.

Reason for recall

Sigenergy is initiating a voluntary product recall due to issues with the sensitivity of the AC plug connection, which is linked to improper installation methods. The original design of the plug required the use of ferrules and crimping to create a stable electrical connection. If these steps were either omitted or incorrectly executed, it could lead to localised heating and mechanical degradation of the plug during prolonged high-power use.

Although there is no systemic defect with the product, Sigenergy has redesigned the AC plug to align with the three-phase connector system. This new design eliminates the need for ferrules or crimping, ensuring consistent installation quality and reducing the chances of variations in the field.

Engineering and safety measures

Firmware Safeguard: All installed 8–12 kW single-phase models have received a firmware update enabling real-time monitoring and temporary power reduction during high-load conditions. This ensures continued safe operation until hardware replacement.

New AC Plug Design: A ferrule-free, pre-moulded connector has been introduced to standardise installation practices and prevent overheating risks.

Verification: Regulatory bodies have confirmed that the inverters remain compliant when installed according to manufacturer instructions.

The Sigenergy voluntary product recall is being undertaken as a precautionary safety initiative.

Customer & installer actions

For homeowners:

For installers:

Regulatory oversight

The Sigenergy voluntary product recall is conducted in coordination with the ACCC’s Product Safety Australia, the Clean Energy Regulator, and the Clean Energy Council. Authorities have verified that the recall addresses installation-related concerns only and maintains the Sigenergy range’s eligibility for Battery Small-Scale Technology Certificates (BSTCs).

Identification of updated models

New and replacement SigenStor EC and Sigen Hybrid single-phase inverters can be identified by:

  • Green dot marking on the outer packaging label, and
  • Revised product documentation noting the “Updated AC Plug (OT-type)” connection.

Support & contact

For further clarification, please contact: service@sigenergy.com

Alternatively, Perth Solar Warehouse customers and installers may contact the PSW technical support team for assistance regarding scheduling or documentation.

Perth Solar Warehouse and Sigenergy remain committed to engineering excellence, safety, and customer confidence. This voluntary recall demonstrates the shared priority of maintaining the integrity, reliability, and compliance of all Sigenergy systems operating across Western Australia.

To date, there are no recorded occurrences of Sigenergy AC plug failures in Western Australia. This is widely attributed to a more conservative grid operation under VPP conditions.

PSW Customer FAQ's

Our responsibility is to minimise PSW customer exposure to this minor interruption in Sigenergy supply.

No.

PSW customers with a delayed installation date affected by the Sigenergy voluntary product recall will not in-cure additional expense if affected by the subsidy reduction.

No.

Under the Sigenergy voluntary product recall, the previous version Inverter/Energy Controller models of single-phase (8, 10, 12 kW) must no longer be used in Australia.

We’ll touch base with affected PSW customers for an ideal revised installation date in Q1 2026.

Please note: alternative Australian geographic regions receive stock at different times. Stock prioritisation will most likely be in order of highest demand Australian regions.

Clean Energy Regulator report ›

Yes.

A product recall would make Sigenergy ineligible to further claiming BSTC’s. However, Sigenergy is conducting a voluntary product recall, which is being overseen by the ACCC’s Product Safety Australia to aid consumer confidence appeasing the CEC product listing requirements.

Yes.

Sigenergy has already remotely output limited supply of your 8, 10 or 12 kW Sigen Energy Controller in high-current scenarios through an over the air update. This method ensures time under safe lower-current operating conditions while all parties address the Sigenergy voluntary product recall.

We’ll touch base with affected PSW customers for an ideal replacement date in Q1 2026.

Silver-certified companies undergo thorough audits and continuous performance evaluations to ensure they consistently meet Sigenergy’s rigorous benchmarks. This exclusivity—achieved by only a small percentage of installers—highlights the trust and confidence customers can place in Perth Solar Warehouse.

Looking ahead

Achieving the Sigenergy Silver certification is not the end of our journey; it is a milestone that motivates us to aim even higher. Perth Solar Warehouse is committed to continuous professional development, investing in advanced training, and pursuing innovations to provide smarter and more efficient solar solutions to Western Australians.

As we move forward, our customers can expect the same dedication, transparency, and excellence that have characterised our business since day one—now reinforced by a stronger quality certification.

Best Rated Solar Retailer in Australia (Top 20 Nationwide)

Customer satisfaction is the cornerstone of Perth Solar Warehouse’s success. According to an independent analysis by SunWiz, which evaluated data from various major review platforms, Perth Solar Warehouse ranks among the Top 20 Best Rated Solar Companies in Australia.

This esteemed recognition positions Perth Solar Warehouse as one of the most trusted solar retailers in the country, based on genuine, verified customer experiences. SunWiz’s rigorous methodology includes the following criteria:

  • Aggregating reviews from Google, SolarQuotes, and other major sites.
  • Excluding companies with fewer than 150 reviews.
  • Considering only businesses that maintain an average rating of 4.8 stars or higher across multiple sources.

Such recognition highlights Perth Solar Warehouse’s ability to deliver exceptional customer outcomes on a large scale, which is increasingly rare in the national solar market. “Customer experience is everything to us,” added McKercher. “Our online model thrives on transparency, honest communication, and genuine value. Every positive review is a testament to the trust of a customer who felt supported — and that’s the real reward.”
