Navigating the Synergy solar feed-in tariff with ease

The Synergy solar feed-in tariff (or DEBS – Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme) is minimal compared to alternative states in Australia where variable energy markets and increased competition exist. Nevertheless, there is no reason why you shouldn’t flex your eligibility muscle and receive a portion of the value for exported electricity units as opposed to nothing.

Fees

Fortunately, the savings from a solar energy system often negate these initial fees within the first month or two. Before applying for anything, it’s always best to understand the costs involved.

For these costs, you will receive 10c for each unit (kWh) exported by your solar energy system during the peak period (between 3 pm and 9 pm) and 2c for each unit exported during the off-peak periods (before 3 pm or after 9pm).

It’s important to consider that due to grid management requirements, Western Power may require communication equipment on the meter at an additional cost in specific scenarios.
